Heat Treatment

Heat treatment of aluminum or any type of heat treatment refers to heating and cooling that is done in order to change the mechanical characteristics and metallurgical structure of a metal product. When this term is used in aluminum alloys, its use is often limited to specific operations that are used to increase the strength and hardness of cast and worked alloys that are capable of hard precipitation. These alloys are usually known as heat treatable alloys. Non-heat-treatable alloys are those aluminum alloys in which significant strength is not achieved by heating and cooling.
